CHAPEL HILL – President Margaret Spellings has announced that Elizabeth A. Morra has been named the Vice President of Federal Affairs for the University of North Carolina System.
“Elizabeth brings over 25 years of government relations and public affairs expertise to the System, and we are thrilled to welcome her aboard,” said President Spellings. “This new position will help us maintain and strengthen our network of contacts in Washington, and give us a seat at the table for important national issues.”
Morra was principal at the Podesta Group in Washington, D.C. from 2001 to 2017, and was recently principal at Cogent Strategies. She served on the staff of the U.S. House Appropriations Committee from 1995 to 2001.
Morra received her bachelor’s degree in journalism with a minor in political science from the University of Georgia. Following her studies, she worked as a reporter and anchor at television stations in Panama City Beach, Florida and in Augusta, Georgia. Additionally, Morra worked as a reporter and anchor at WFMY-TV in Greensboro, N.C. from 1990 to 1992.
She is married and has two children. One of her daughters, Cameron, has a tennis scholarship to UNC-Chapel Hill and will be entering the university as a freshman this fall.
Morra will be based out of Washington, DC in her new role.
