UNCW Associate Professor of Geography Narcisa Pricope has received a Fulbright Award to research landscape degradation and teach courses in satellite remote sensing and unmanned aerial systems (UAS) photogrammetry at the University of Namibia.

Pricope, an expert in land change science, water resources and climate change, will work with international researchers to address the linkages between land degradation and livelihoods in Namibia and the larger Kavango-Zambezi Transfrontier Conservation Area as part of a global effort to achieve land degradation neutrality.

“Receiving the Fulbright Scholar Award to teach and work alongside colleagues at the University of Namibia is an opportunity of unprecedented significance for my career and a dream come true,” she said.

Pricope has collaborated with the University of Namibia since 2009 conducting National Science Foundation (NSF) funded research on land systems dynamics and population vulnerability in the southern and eastern African drylands.
